History of Tattoo

Tattoo Body Art History

Tattoos have been used since prehistoric times even thousands of years ago. I have read about a few mummies being discovered that had tattoos on various parts of their bodies.

Tattoos are used by a wide range of cultures such as the Chinese and even the Europeans. However, the practice of tattoos as a body art declined among the europeans after christianity was spreas as body art was seen as a paganic thing which was forbidden among the christians.

You will find it hard to believe that tattoos were used in the 18th century by tribal people who didnt wear any clothes at all. They just used tattoo designs on their bodies which gave the appearance of garments. These people considered tattoos as a necessary part of their society. Anyone who did not use tattoos was not accepted into their tribe.

Nowadays, body art is a fashion trend but in the olden days these were used for various different reasons such as protection from magic spells, as a symbol of a certain tribe and even to declare victory in war.

We really have come a long way now.
